What To Expect From A US Department Of Education Audit Of Your Federal Fire Safety Reporting Compliance  - A Personal Experience -
Mr. Larry Labbe was placed into a position most of us have not been in, but could be in at anytime in the future. Just as Larry was, you very easily could be on the receiving end of this "knock on the door".

After being hired by Georgia Tech in September 2010, Larry had to submit the 2010 Right To Know report. Ironically, the following year Georgia Tech was selected for a random audit by both the FBI and DOE. From this experience, your speaker will share the planning, preparation and the actual audit events with you. There are many ways to be selected to receive an audit, hopefully this session will better prepare you for that possibility

Very Special Presentations....

1) Campus Safety 101 - Are you new in your job (2 years or less)? Have you just been promoted and now you are responsible for Fire Safety, Security and/or Risk Management? We are putting together a series of workshops that are designed as training packages just for you. Never has such a training program been offered. We have subject matter experts in all fields of safety willing to share words of wisdom with those of you new to this business.

2) We are proud to announce a very special series of presentations dedicated to working with disabled students. We are in the planning stages of an entire track of training and education relating to students with disabilities.  Part of this programming will provide guidance and assistance for campuses around the country to develop fire safety information and protocols for students with disabilities.

See our conference website for more information:http://www.CampusSafetyExpo.com

Rated as the best and most affordable conference of its kind (last 8 years). We hold our heads high as we say we are "The Affordable Conference".

2012 United Kingdom/United States Chief Fire Officer Symposium

The dates for the 2012 United Kingdom/United States Chief Fire Officer Symposium have been set for May 15-17, 2012. Please plan on arriving on May 14th for the welcoming reception. Departures may be scheduled on May 18, or later. The 2012 Symposium will be hosted by the National Fire Protection Association in Boston, Massachusetts. The theme of the symposium will be "Modifying Fire Protection Strategies for a Changed Environment."

Topics tentatively identified for the 17th Annual Symposium include:

Closing the Fire Service and Fire Science Gap:

Manual fire suppression has been recognized as dangerous to the safety of fire fighters and the most costly and, typically, least effective means of controlling the number of fires and reducing the impact of fire on affected lives and property. Modern approaches to fire protection in the built environment can have a significant impact on both the fire service and the community. Are traditional approaches to fire suppression still valid, and do we really understand what is happening in today’s built environment?

Delivering Fire Services in a Fiscally Challenging World:

The current worldwide economic situation continues to place unprecedented demands on local fire service organizations to deliver better and more effective services to the community. New energy threats and working with hard-to-reach communities in our society continue to challenge the fire service. What proactive approaches are being successfully implemented on a local and national basis to better protect our fire fighters and citizenry?

You are receiving this e-mail invitation because you have attended a previous session of the UK / US Fire service symposium or have indicated an interest in attending the symposium. One of the main issues embraced in the last few years is to invite and welcome the new generation of fire service leaders to the symposium. If you know someone who meets this "new generation" criteria, feel free to forward this e-mail to him or her and encourage them to attend next year in Boston.

More information on the program, hotel, and travel logistics will be sent to you in the next few weeks. We ask that you confirm your interest and ability to attend the symposium to both myself (wppfdtx@aol.com), with cc to UK Secretariat Dennis Davis (FIRSTFIRECALL@aol.com), and Bill Kehoe (kehoefd@aol.com) as soon as possible to assist us with the planning activities required to make this a professionally rewarding and memorable event.

Should you have any questions or require additional information at this time, please feel free to let us know how we can assist you.

Thanks for your attention and continued interest in the UK/US Symposium and we hope to see you in Boston, MA. next May.

Responding to Hybrid and Electric Vehicles

Tip Sheet for Chevy Malibu & Saturn Aura Hybrid Vehicles

Do Water and Electric Cars Mix?

The National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA) Electric Vehicle Safety Training project is a nationwide program to help firefighters and first responders prepare for the growing number of electric vehicles on the road in the United States. Providing firefighters and first responders with the information they need about electric vehicles will be critical to their safety and crucial to the public’s acceptance of these vehicles. This program will provide first responders with information they need to most effectively deal with potential emergency situations involving electric and hybrid vehicles. Part of this NFPA project includes reviewing and helping to disseminate automobile manufacturer’s emergency response guides (ERG) for hybrid-electric and all electric vehicles.

The Nissan LEAF, a fully electric vehicle, will soon be released to the public, and Nissan has provided a First Responders Guide for firefighters and first responders to safely respond to emergency incidents involving the LEAF. Please assist NFPA in distributing this guide to firefighters and first responders. For more information on the NFPA Electric Vehicle Safety Training project and for the latest releases on electric vehicle emergency response guides, additional EV information, training programs and a calendar of events, please visit the website - http://www.evsafetytraining.org
